Display Case housing manufacter #

Hi I Have this model I need to replace the damaged display housing. The LCD and glass panel are fine. Where can I find the part number for just the housing lid.

Would a mac air 15 lid be compatible.

Thanks In advance for your time and input!

Your question would be best answered by Ben Eisenman. He's the top parts man around here. He works for iFixit and should be back on by Monday.

Good morning!

Apple's policy for the Unibody displays is very frustrating. They consider the entire display assembly as one non-user replaceable part. Therefore, I am unaware of an actual apple part number for the display housing, and the only place I can think of for finding one is eBay (maybe even scavenge a good housing off a cheap non-working display assembly?).

Also, I am unaware of any cross-compatibility between machines. The MacBook Air only comes in 13", so it is definitely incompatible.

Sorry for the bad news!

Oh it is worse than that even. Per macservice: http://www.myservice.com/MacBookpro.html They could replace just your screen because that can be ordered as a separate part, but for a damaged display housing that cannot be ordered separately.

Ridiculous! I'm in the same place. A repair that should only cost $200, will cost $800 instead.

Ben Elsenman is right. they sell the the panels on ebay, new for about $100, less for used ones. The only pain is the acutal replacement itself.. Please refer to the ifixit.com guide on replacing your specific LCD assemble on your mac

they sell housing for various machines. However according to i fixit the 2008-2009 has a different housing from 2010 and 2011.. But at this website they say it is compatible with

MacBook Pro 15" 1.83/2.0/2.16GHz Core Duo

MacBook Pro 15" 2.0/2.16GHz Core 2 Duo

MacBook Pro 15" 2.2/2.4/2.6GHz Core 2 Duo (Santa Rosa)

MacBook Pro 15" 2.4/2.5/2.6GHz Core 2 Duo (Penryn)

However they go on to explain the older versions had 3 screws for the old isight and then changed to 1 for a newer Isight.. I am trying to figure out if i too can use this for mine, or if id have to also buy a new isight.... I am trying to replace my entire housing as it had a few accidents.. Ive already found new topcase with a bad keyboard that i am going to switch out.. thanks to i fixit showing the secrets behind what apple calls one part at 214 dollars got the top case for 50 of ebay.

If you ben have any ideas on this solution for the display housing

please share
